Speaking in an exclusive interview shared by the Veteran Journalist Dele Momodu, is the former Nigerian Political and Military Leader, who served as Nigeria' s Head of State and later as its President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. The former president broke silence on his age- long feud with the renowned Nigerian Playwright, Novelist and Essayist, Wole Soyinka.

Obasanjo admitted that he doesn' t see eye to eye with Wole Soyinka, and their feud might not end based on what Wole Soyinka said to him. He added that, " Wole Soyinka and I have been having a running battle and he said, it will not end until one of us leaves this world. If he leaves before and when I get to heaven, I hope he will be there to welcome me, but if I leave before him I' ll welcome him. "

 

The former head of state acknowledged the academic prowess of the Nobel Prize winner in Literature, despite their age- long feud. Obasanjo further added that, " Wole Soyinka is a gifted man, I always acknowledge that but he is a bad politician or political analyst and that is my own point of view. He may agree with it and he may not agree with it. "

Obasanjo also recounted how their relationship used to be before their feud started, " Wole Soyinka is a good connoisseur of wine. I know that because when I was in Northern Barack, Wole Soyinka would come and visit me and bring his own special wine under his armpit, and I loved that. So, between me and Wole Soyinka there is no problem. I still have regard for him but I don' t know how much he has for me, but I have for him, " he said.
